United Nations Framework Convention of Climate Change (UNFCCC)

explanation

In 1994 the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change came into force and was agreed by 198 parties, including 197 nations and the EU. The goal of the Convention is to limit the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere to prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system. Each year the main decision-making body comes together in the so-called Conference of the Parties (COP). International treaties like the Paris Agreement were negotiated here.
